RESPONDING TO a Parliament question, Union Law Minister D V Sadananda Gowda told the Lok Sabha that the Supreme Court had not agreed to the Law Commission’s recommendation to keep only a Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court in New Delhi and set up four regional benches to handle other appeals. Meanwhile, during a hearing of a PIL in the Supreme Court, Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi seemed to convey a different view on setting up a national court of appeal. He called it a “self-defeating” exercise and preferred to refer the matter to the Law Commission once again.

CHANDER MOHAN aka Chand Mohammad, former Haryana deputy chief minister who was in the news for marrying former Haryana assistant advocate general Anuradha Bali alias Fiza after they both converted to Islam, made a rare and quiet public appearance on Thursday. As his brother and Haryana Janhit Congress chief Kuldeep Bishnoi merged his party with the Congress in Delhi, Chander Mohan was seen standing with other party functionaries. He chose not to speak or interact with anyone, and left when the function ended.

Goodwill Voting

THEY MAY be locking horns in West Bengal, but Trinamool Congress MPs seem to have some friends in the treasury benches of Parliament. While most of the Trinamool MPs are absent because of the state elections, Sultan Ahmed and Kalyan Banerjee got elected to the committee on estimates — they could not have made it to the committee without securing some BJP votes. Saugata Roy, however, did not make it to the committee of public undertakings.

There are many of Ambedkar also, from postcard size frames to much bigger ones — the only leader among the frames who did not advocate a Hindu Rashtra or was never taken to be a Hindu icon.
