The family’s neighbours alerted the police as there was no response from its members.
Four members of a family were found dead at their home in Hyderabad’s Habsiguda area on Monday night. Police suspect the family members to have killed themselves in a suicide pact.
The deceased have been identified as Kotha Chandrasekhar Reddy, 44; his wife Kavitha, 35; and their children Shritha Reddy, 13; and Vishanth Reddy, 10—all residents of Ravindranagar in Habsiguda.
According to the police, Reddy had worked as a junior lecturer in a private college and been unemployed since 2023.
A police officer said a suicide note was recovered from the house. “A prolonged joblessness and health issues seem to have added to the family’s financial stress. This might have led them to the extreme step,” he said.
“We are probing all aspects related to them,” he added.
The note in Telugu left behind by the couple said that they had no other option than to end their lives owing to struggling careers and health issues, including mental and physical suffering, and added that no one was responsible for their deaths.
Chandrashekar Reddy’s elder brother Kotha Upender Reddy said the family had been struggling financially and that the rest of the four brothers had been helping him regularly. Cousins and relatives had tried reaching Reddy over the phone on Monday but could not get a response, prompting them to visit his home. Upon getting no response from inside, they broke the door open and found the four dead. Upender Reddy added that his brother was mentally depressed owing to financial issues.
