Have written to PM Modi for appointment between Dec 18 and 20 to discuss central dues for Bengal: Mamata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said Saturday that she had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking for an appointment on any date between December 18 and 20 in New Delhi to discuss the central dues for the state.

“I will meet him with some of my MPs. They are not paying our dues, especially for the 100-day work scheme. If the prime minister doesn’t give us time, I will see what I can do,” the Trinamool Congress chief said at Siliguri during her seven-day tour of north Bengal

Banerjee also said she would go to New Delhi on December 17, stay there till December 20 and also attend a meeting of the Opposition INDIA bloc there. “I have sought an appointment with the prime minister on any of the days—18, 19 or 20th of this month,” she added.

“They have even stopped giving our share of the funds to the health department. Although they don’t pay us, we haven’t stopped any of the schemes. The Centre is taking GST, but is not sending our share to us,” she said.

In March, Mamata sat overnight in front of the BR Ambedkar statue on Red Road accusing the Centre of discrimination. Her nephew and TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee, accompanied by party MPs and ministers, protested in New Delhi on October 2 and 3. He came back to Kolkata and protested in front of the Raj Bhavan demanding central dues, especially the MGNREGS funds.
