The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday said it has attached movable and immovable assets belonging to former cricketers Suresh Raina and Shikhar Dhawan in connection with a money laundering case linked to an online betting platform. According to ED, assets worth Rs 11.14 crore were attached, including mutual fund investments worth approximately Rs 6.64 crore held in the name of Raina and immovable property valued at Rs 4.5 crore in the name of Dhawan. In September, ED recorded the statements of Dhawan, Raina, Yuvraj Singh, and Robin Uthappa in the case linked to 1xBet. Read more
Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) of Assam, has announced that he is stepping down from the post, citing “moral grounds.” Mahanta, a retired IPS officer who had previously served as the Assam Director General of Police (DGP) is the brother of Shyamkanu Mahanta, the organiser of the Northeast Festival in Singapore, for which Assamese singer Zubeen Garg had travelled when he died in September. Shyamkanu is one of seven people who have been arrested following Zubeen’s death on September 19. Read more
US President Donald Trump described New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s victory speech as a “very angry speech” and reminded him that he should seek a fresh relationship with Washington. Following his historic win on Tuesday, Mamdani directly addressed President Trump and said that he has “four words for him: Turn the volume up”, before warning the US President against targeting New York City. Navigation using Google Maps is set to get even more convenient with new features being rolled out in India soon. These include Gemini’s conversational AI capabilities directly integrated into the Maps app, enabling more natural, hands-free interactions, as well as India-specific features such as accident-prone area alerts and easier metro ticket management via Google Wallet. Google said on Thursday that Gemini-powered navigation will roll out to Android and iOS in the coming weeks. Read more
