Court awards 7-yr RI to man for raping minor

A Delhi court sentenced a man to seven years rigorous imprisonment after convicting him of raping his employer's minor daughter two years ago.

A Delhi court sentenced a man to seven years rigorous imprisonment after convicting him of raping his employer’s minor daughter two years ago.

Additional Sessions Judge Dharmesh Sharma also expressed concern over the growing cases of rape involving acquaintances of the victim.

In its judgement,the judge also referred to the National Commission for Women (NCW) data stating that 92 per cent cases of rape involved people known to the victim while 7.5 per cent were their relatives.

The court termed the act of Mohd Jaffar as a “dastardly act” and also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him,besides the sentence.

“The convict committed such a dastardly act on a hapless child of seven years and the incident of child abuse should be dealt with strictly,” the court said.
