At least 3 Maoists killed in encounter in Chhattisgarh

At least three Maoists were killed in an encounter between security forces and the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) in the jungles of Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district Friday, police said.
The encounter broke out around 11 am on the Usoor-Basaguda and Pamed in southern part of Bijapur district, which shares its border with Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district and the neighbouring state of Telangana. The encounter site is 130 km from Bijapur district headquarters.
The Central Reserve Police Force’s elite force Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), District Reserve Guards (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF) were involved in the encounter. One SLR and a pistol was found in the search operations that followed.
“All jawans are safe,” Bijapur Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Yadav said.
On October 6, a team of security forces found spikes hidden in a pit and 5 kgs of Improvised Explosive Device (IED) kept on the road between Mutvendi police camp and Pedia, a village where 12 alleged Maoists were killed in an encounter in May this year, during an anti-naxal operation.
A 10-year-old boy and two Special Task Force (STF) jawans were also killed in separate IED blasts in July.
Spread across 6,562.48 sq km, Bijapur has seen the most violence between security forces and Maoists. According to the police, 51 alleged Maoists were killed in 155 Naxal-related incidents in the district from December 13 last year to October 5 this year. Of the incidents, 40 were alleged encounters.
Three jawans were also killed in the violence during the same period. Meanwhile, 393 alleged Maoists were arrested while 178 Naxals surrendered. Security forces also seized 47 weapons and found 87 Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs).
