CBI books 2 doctors for duping AIIMS in Rishikesh

CBI registered an FIR on September 26 against ex-director Ravi Kant, Rajesh Pasricha (currently professor with AIIMS Bhopal) and former store keeper-cum-clerk Roop Singh.

CBI books 2 doctors for duping AIIMS in RishikeshIn the FIR, the CBI said that a payment of Rs 8.08 crore was released to the contractor/supplier of a Delhi-based company on November 1, 2019 and January 13, 2020 by the AIIMS, Rishikesh against "contingent bill no 1 and 2".

The CBI has registered an FIR against two doctors and a storekeeper for allegedly duping All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rishikesh, by extending undue favours to a private medical company and also hiding the tender files. One of the two doctors is a former director of AIIMS-Rishikesh. CBI registered an FIR on September 26 against ex-director Ravi Kant, Rajesh Pasricha (currently professor with AIIMS Bhopal) and former store keeper-cum-clerk Roop Singh.

The CBI took approval from the Union Health Ministry before booking Kant – a Padma Shri awardee in 2016 – under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Permission of the AIIMS President was taken before booking Pasricha. CBI’s anti-corruption branch and AIIMS officers conducted a joint surprise check (JSC) at the AIIMS department of cardiology on March 26 after irregularities in the establishment of Coronary Care Unit were flagged.

In the FIR, the CBI said that a payment of Rs 8.08 crore was released to the contractor/supplier of a Delhi-based company on November 1, 2019 and January 13, 2020 by the AIIMS, Rishikesh against “contingent bill no 1 and 2”. In 2022, the CBI registered two separate cases against faculty members of AIIMS-Rishikesh and private companies for alleged corruption in setting up of a chemist shop on the AIIMS campus, among other malpractices.
