Bihar Class 10 student shot dead for ‘refusing to show answer sheet to classmate’ during board exam

The injured students were rushed to a nearby hospital and later taken to Narayan Medical College for better treatment. One of them succumbed to his injuries while the other is said to be out of danger.

A class 10 student in Bihar’s Rohtas district allegedly opened fire at his classmates, killing one and injuring another, after they refused to show him their answer sheets during board exams, police said.

He has been detained, and according to police, a country-made pistol has been recovered from his possession.

The incident took place on Thursday, when the students were returning home after the class 10 Social Sciences exam. According to the police, during the Sanskrit exam a day earlier, the boy asked two of his classmates to show him their answer sheets, which they refused. He then allegedly threatened them outside the exam centre and a confrontation ensued that was calmed by other students.

The next day, however, when the two students were returning home with others in an auto, the other boy allegedly followed them along with his friends, forced the auto to stop and got into a scuffle with the victims, police said. During the scuffle, he allegedly fired a country-made pistol at them.

The injured students were rushed to a nearby hospital and later taken to Narayan Medical College for better treatment. One of them succumbed to his injuries while the other is said to be out of danger.

Rohtas Superintendent of Police (SP) Raushan Kumar said the incident happened at around 5.15 pm near the Kav River bridge on National Highway 2.

A special team, led by Sasaram Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Dilip Kumar, detained the suspect, who was at his maternal uncle’s residence. The team also recovered the pistol used in the shooting and the mobile phone, which were hidden behind his uncle’s house, police said.

Relatives of the victims staged a protest on the highway on Friday.
