(File) A 21-year-old constable of Bastar Fighter, a new force with recruits from interior villages formed to fight left-wing extremism, suffered a grievous injury in an improvised explosive device blast during an area-domination exercise in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident took place around 2.15 pm, when a team of the District Reserve Guard and Bastar Fighter personnel from Dantewada district were moving towards Ursangal village.
When the team reached Benpalli village on the district’s border, around 85 km away from the headquarters of Dantewada, Roshan Nag accidentally stepped on a pressure IED.
“Nag was airlifted in a helicopter and taken to Raipur for better treatment,” said Gaurav Rai, superintendent of police for Dantewada district. Nag is in an ICU and said to be out of danger.
Electricity is still to reach Benpalli village and the area-domination exercise was being carried out in order to construct a road.
