The allegations come just a day after two people were arrested for promising aspirants that they could ensure success in the exam in return for money. (File Photo)The Arunachal Pradesh cabinet on Monday approved a draft bill to prevent unfair means in the recruitment examinations. Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced that the Arunachal Pradesh Examination (Measures for Prevention of Unfair Means in Recruitment) Bill, 2024, will be tabled in the upcoming legislative assembly session later this month.
This decision by the new Pema Khandu government, elected back to power in this year’s state elections, comes after the state has been rocked by paper leak in 2022 recruitment exams for assistant engineers.
Following public outrage following the leak, the state government constituted a one-man inquiry commission with a mandate to “investigate alleged question paper leaks” in various recruitment exams conducted by the APPSC during an eight-year period from April 2014 to August 2022.
The draft Bill is likely to be tabled in the assembly on July 19. A note on the cabinet’s decision states that it includes “stringent penalties, imprisonment, and fines up to one crore.” In February this year, the Lok Sabha had passed a Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act.
Assam also passed its own Assam Public Examination (Measures for Prevention of Unfair Means in Recruitment) Act earlier this year.
