(File Photo)As a part of the countrywide protests over purported irregularities in the NEET-UG examination and possible compromise in the integrity of the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) that was cancelled earlier this week, the Tripura unit of the Congress hit the streets of Agartala on Friday.
The party also demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and burnt an effigy of Pradhan.
While speaking to the media, Congress president Ashish Kumar Saha said neither has any action been taken against Pradhan nor has he himself taken any action.
“Incidents of paper leaks are being reported in the country. The youths are worried. While cases are being filed in the courts across states, the education minister is saying there is no corruption,” said Saha.
Congress Working Committee member Sudip Roy Barman demanded the Union Education Minister’s resignation. He also said the examinations should be scrapped and fresh ones should be conducted to give scope to meritorious students.
“Nearly 70 cases of paper leak incidents have taken place across the country in the seven years of the Modi government. There is no conviction against those who are guilty and involved in earning money through paper leaks. This is a corrupt government. The Modi government is a paper leak government. Not a single word has come from Modi,” he said.
The protests come a day after CPI(M) student wing Students Federation of India (SFI) burnt effigies of the Union Education Minister and demanded strict action on those involved in the incidents of paper leak and compromise of the integrity of the NEET-UG and UGC NET exams.
