Sahara Group warns of legal action against makers after Scam 2010: The Subrata Roy Saga announcement: ‘An abusive act has been demonstrated….’
Sahara India Pariwar condemned Hansal Mehta's new show Scam 2010: The Subrata Roy Saga, which is based on the life of Sahara India Pariwar founder Subrata Roy.

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta on Thursday announced the third part of Scam series titled Scam 2010: The Subrata Roy Saga. Based on the life of Sahara India Pariwar founder Subrata Roy, the show will explore the highs and lows of the Sahara group. However, Sahara India Pariwar is upset with the depiction of the late founder and the use of ‘Scam’ in the title. In a statement, they have warned the makers of legal action.
As reported by India Today, the statement read, “An abusive and grossly condemnable act has been demonstrated by the makers of ‘Scam’ to achieve cheap and wide publicity, by announcing to unveil, ‘Scam 2010: The Subrata Roy Saga’. Sahara India Pariwar condemns such acts of all the individuals and parties involved and shall resist to their offending behavior. In this regard, the aggrieved members are seeking advice to take suitable legal action against the Producer, Director and all those who are involved in making the illegal portrayal.”
The statement added that the dispute between SEBI and Sahara is still pending in the Supreme Court and any attempt to influence the proceedings would attract ‘contempt of court’. The statement further read, “In the garb of a right of free speech and expression, no one can be allowed to undermine the goodwill and reputation of a person, who is not available to defend himself.”

The statement also touched upon the word ‘scam’. “The use of the word ‘scam’ in the title of the so-called web-series and linking it to Sahara seems prima-facie defamatory, and tends to lower down the image and reputation of Saharasri Ji and Sahara India Pariwar. Sahara India Pariwar has never been involved in any chit fund activity. Even the Sahara-SEBI issue was a dispute on the SEBI’s jurisdiction on OFCD bonds issued by Sahara.”
Scam 2010: The Subrata Roy Saga is based on the book titled Sahara: the Untold Story by Tamal Bandyopadhyay. Scam 2010 is the third show in a series about Indian financial scandals, following Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story and Scam 2003: The Telgi Story.
