Aryan Khan’s show The Ba***ds of Bollywood dropped on Netflix on Thursday, and in the first episode, the creator-director took a dig at the 2021 case where he was wrongfully put behind bars for alleged drugs possession. In the years since then, officer Sameer Wankhede, who was a part of the team that arrested Aryan, has spoken about the case in indirect terms on several occasions. In the show, Aryan satirizes the incident with a caricature of Wankhede, who shows up in one scene to bust a Bollywood party, and arrests a young star. The character is loud, cartoonish, and clearly designed as a caricature.

In the scene, a character who resembles Sameer steps out of a police van outside of a Bollywood party and announces, “Drugs ne iss desh ko barbaad kar dia hai.” As he finds a guy smoking a joint, he announces he is from the NCG (probably a stand-in for NCB). The officer acts in an exaggerated comical fashion as he declares that he is a “part of war against drugs,” but when he gets to know that the man smoking the pot is not a part of Bollywood, he screams, almost in agony. Soon afterwards, he spots an actor standing nearby, and has a mischievous smile on his face. He goes up to the actor and arrests him, even though he is not smoking anything.

The scene plays out like a comedy and is clearly Aryan taking shots at Sameer Wankhede, and stating that he was collateral damage in one person’s mission to malign the industry. Aryan has not made any statements about the arrest since it happened, but this seems to be his response to the entire episode.

In 2021, Aryan Khan was arrested along with six other people for allegedly possessing drugs at a party on a cruise ship. Aryan was in jail for 25 days, during which he was denied bail various times. He was ultimately released from Mumbai Central Prison after 25 days. In 2022, all charges against Aryan were dropped. Sameer Wankhede was later accused of corruption and extortion with regards to the same case.

In an earlier chat with Gaurav Thakur on his YouTube channel, Sameer had said that this was the “smallest case” of his career. “I would rather think it as one of the smallest cases of my career–a microorganism in the room. I don’t want to give it so much importance, or waste my time talking about it. The matter is currently in the court and I don’t want to comment on it. I just want to say, neither am I scared of anything, nor am I hiding anything. The only reason I avoid talking about it is because I have given an affidavit in the court that I will not speak about the case. There is a lot to share and talk, but there is a code of conduct, due to which I can’t discuss. Once the court will pass its verdict, I will surely speak about it in detail,” he said.

On the night of the premiere, comedian Samay Raina wore a t-shirt with the text ‘Say no to cruise’ which was also a reference to Aryan’s arrest.

Aryan Khan’s show stars Bobby Deol, Lakshya, Raghav Juyal, Mona Singh, Anya Singh, Saher Bambba among others.
