The White Lotus Season 3 might have ended with an underwhelming finale, but behind-the-scenes drama seems to be compensating for it. It all started when some fans noticed a digital fallout: Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood, who played Rick and Chelsea—the lead couple in Season 3—are no longer following each other on Instagram. Many found it odd, considering they had shared screen space, posted tributes, and spoken warmly about each other during the press tour. And just as Reddit began rolling out theories, fellow cast member Jason Isaacs made cryptic comments, calling the shoot a “pressure cooker,” and hinting at a tense dynamic on set.

Did Rick and Chelsea’s romance turn sour off-screen?

It was just days ago when Aimee Lou gave an interview to The Hollywood Reporter, expressing her sadness over Walton skipping the White Lotus Season 3 finale viewing party, saying she missed him since it was something they did together. “Like, of course Walton had to watch it alone, and of course I had to watch it in the group, because there is so much Aimee in Chelsea and so much Walton in Rick.”

Now, a subtle change on social media quickly snowballed into full-blown speculation. Some even noted the absence of tags in recent posts where the actors posted each other’s photos and pointed out that Aimee Lou’s past comments on Walton’s posts had mysteriously vanished. A section of fans is convinced that the beloved on-screen couple has blocked each other. It’s worth mentioning that even months earlier, their bond appeared solid. In August 2024, Walton left a glowing comment on one of Aimee Lou’s posts: “You are the brightest light in every room. A Human’s Human. Miss you.

Naturally, Reddit and X (formerly Twitter) had thoughts. Some fans believe a fallout may have occurred during or after filming. “They used to idolise each other,” one Reddit user wrote. “It’s so weird that all of a sudden there’s this switch up.” One user even broke down all the changes in bullet points—like how he was the one who blocked her, and skipped the finale only to end up watching it with another co-star. The same user also hinted there might be trouble in paradise for Walton, pointing out that “Leslie Bibb, his co-star, absolutely loves Aimee Lou, always brings her up in interviews, and was apparently close with Walton’s wife before.” The Reddit user mentioned how Walton’s wife recently posted twice, and both times he commented, “I love you so much.”

Just last week, he also shared an Instagram story about leaving for another trip and said again how much he loved her. And then, both Aimee and Walton ended up posting tributes to their characters using Fleetwood Mac’s “Silver Springs”—hers was a post, his was just an Insta story. But, amid all this just a few days ago, Walton shared a carousel of behind-the-scenes photos from their time filming in Thailand, calling their story “a love story… hindered by unresolved, childhood trauma.” In a long, handwritten post, he thanked series creator Mike White and Aimee Lou, writing, “Thank you Aimee Lou for being my partner… a journey I will never forget.” She also reciprocated the feeling and shared her own tributes. A simple caption—“The perfect storm 🩷 ☯️ ♾️”—on a photo of their on-screen characters walking together, and another image of graffiti that read, “I love you. Forever,” signed off with “R and C forever 💘.”

Castmate Jason Isaacs weighs in

In an appearance on The Happy Hour on SiriusXM, Jason Isaacs (Timothy Ratliff) seemingly acknowledged that “there were tense dynamics during production.” He described the summer set as filled with “friendships, romances, arguments, cliques that form and break and reform.” But he also pushed back at fan speculation. “Nobody has the slightest clue what they’re talking about,” he said, addressing internet theories. “I’m careful. I’m not stupid. I look at the Internet. I only read every single word written about The White Lotus and about everybody in it,” he said.

Isaacs clarified that his earlier hints about drama referred to crew departments, not necessarily the main cast. Still, for fans convinced something went bad between Walton and Aimee Lou, his comments didn’t do much to quash speculation. Despite the online theories, neither Walton nor Aimee Lou has publicly confirmed any fallout. All we know so far is that they have always spoken fondly of each other. Yet, the absence of mutual tags, vanishing comments, and conspicuous unfollowing have left fans to create their own conclusions.

Mike White and White Lotus Composer fallout

Mike White, the creator of The White Lotus, has finally addressed the behind-the-scenes drama with the show’s composer, Cristóbal Tapia de Vee. During his appearance on The Howard Stern Show, White revealed he was shocked to see that Tapia de Veer went to the press and said they had a falling out. “I don’t think I ever had a fight with him, except maybe some emails — it was basically me giving him notes,” White said. The director added that he genuinely wasn’t sure from the start how much of a team player the composer was, and labeled the composer’s press move ahead of the finale as “kind of a bitch move.”

The Emmy winning composer, on the other hand has already confirmed he won’t be back for season four. In that same Times interview, he hinted that their creative clashes started as early as season one. “We already had our last fight forever, I think,” the composer said. White, on the other hand, believes the real issue was Tapia de Veer’s attitude. “He didn’t respect me,” White said adding that the composer “wanted to do it his way.”
