A day after a road accident on Basanti Highway in North 24 Parganas, killed his son and the driver of his car, Bholanath Ghosh, a key witness in the Sandeshkhali ED assault case and connected to a CBI probe, on Thursday alleged a “planned murder” and lodged a police complaint.
Ghosh’s four-wheeler collided with a truck on the highway, killing his younger son and the driver instantly, while he was seriously injured.

The truck driver fled, and the heavy vehicle was later found dangling precariously over the water, the officials said.

A police complaint has been lodged at Rajbari Police Phari against eight people, including Shahjahan Sheikh and truck driver Alim Molla, accusing them of “conspiracy to murder.”

Ghosh along with his family and lawyer Kalicharan Mondal reached Rajbari police outpost at Nazat to file the charges.
“We have received the complaint and initiated a case. Investigation is underway. No arrests have been made yet, but we will act soon,” a senior officer said.

“Eight persons have been named including Shahjahan Sheikh. The truck driver Alim Molla is the prime accused. It took the family little time to register a complaint. The family firmly believes that it is not an accident but a ‘planned murder’. We are yet to get the FIR copy,” said Mondal.

Meanwhile, a five-member team of forensic officials inspected the crash site and the vehicles on Thursday, collecting fingerprints and samples from the truck and Ghosh’s car, which were recovered at a nearby petrol pump post-accident.

The investigation is probing how the collision occurred and the circumstances surrounding it.
