Trinadha Rao Nakkina apologises to Anshu Ambani for body-shaming comments: ‘I made those comments in jest’

This is not the first time Telugu director Trinadha Rao Nakkina has landed in trouble for his inappropriate comments or behaviour.

Director Trinadha Rao Nakkina, known for helming Dhamaka, has apologised for his body-shaming remarks directed at actor Anshu Ambani at the teaser launch event of their forthcoming film Mazaka. In a video, the filmmaker, who received a lot of backlash for his remarks, called the incident unfortunate and explained that the comments were intended to be light-hearted.

In the video, Trinadha said, “I came to know that several women were uncomfortable with my statements made during the teaser launch of Mazaka. I call it unfortunate, as they were not planned.”

He added, “I made those comments in jest, hoping to make everyone laugh. However, if these remarks have hurt you, this is my mistake. I would like to issue a heartfelt apology, as they were objectionable. I will also personally apologise to Anshu. I didn’t realise this would become such a significant issue.”

Sundeep Kishan, who is playing the lead role in Mazaka, shared the video on X and wrote, “Yesterday was an unfortunate slip of the tongue by Dir #NakkinaTrinadhRao. It’s a wrong example to set & we should have been cautious to avoid it. Trinadh garu & Team #Mazaka apologise for the poor choice of words to Anshu garu & to all Women out there, We are because of you (sic).”

For the unversed, during his speech at the teaser launch of Mazaka, Trinadha Rao Nakkina had expressed excitement about working with Anshu Ambani, and said in Telugu, “I used to wonder how does this girl look like this. If you don’t know what she looks like, watch the movie Manmadhudu.” He added, “Does she still look like that? She’s thinner now. I asked her to eat and put on weight because it’s not enough for Telugu (cinema). Size needs to be bigger. She has improved now. She will improve further.”

This is not the first time Trinadha has landed in trouble for his inappropriate comments or behaviour. In 2024, at an event, he made actor Payal Radhakrishna uncomfortable because of his repeated requests for a hug, while she refused non-verbally several times.
