Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who has been recovering from an autoimmune condition called myositis, is currently busy promoting her film Shaakuntalam. The movie is based on the Sanskrit play Abhijnana Shakuntalam by Kalidasa. Despite her reputation for intense roles in movies like U-Turn, Super Deluxe, Majili, The Family Man 2 and Yashoda, Samantha is all set to surprise her audience by taking on the role of a mythological character. She believes that millennials will relate to Shakuntala.

During a recent interview with Thi Cinemas, Samantha explained that Shakuntala is a very contemporary character who fought against societal norms, stood for her love, beliefs, and fought for her place in society. Samantha further stated that Shakuntala is timeless and transcends centuries, making it relatable to everyone.

“Here is a character who could be any of us. Fighting against societal norms. Her stand, her beliefs, these are all things you and I relate to today. So I think that millennials will connect to it,” the actor said.
