RRR emerged as one of the biggest worldwide hits that Indian cinema has ever seen in 2022 and after a glorious round of promotions during the Oscar season earlier this year, there has been a lot of conversation around the film’s sequel. While there has been no confirmation about a sequel from director SS Rajamouli, now writer Vijayendra Prasad has hinted that the sequel with the two protagonists could be set in Africa.
In a chat with Bollywood Hungama, Prasad, who is the father of the RRR director, was asked if there is going to be a sequel to the film. “It’s both a yes and a no,” he said. He said that after the release of the film in 2022, he had shared an idea for the sequel with his son where the story continues in Africa. “After the release of RRR I shared an idea of the sequel where the story continues with Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (NTR Jr) set in Africa,” he said and added that the director liked the idea and asked him to develop it into a full script.
However, the writer added that Rajamouli is presently busy with his upcoming film with Mahesh Babu and will only think about his next project after he is done with this one. “Knowing my son’s temperament he will not pay any attention to the sequel-idea till the movie with Mahesh is finished. After that if he likes my script and if both the heroes like the script and if they have the time…” he said. Previously, Vijayendra told Maha News that the sequel of RRR could be helmed by a Hollywood director.
In November, Rajamouli had spoken about a sequel to RRR at a screening in Chicago where he said that he would “absolutely love to” make it. “I can’t reveal many details about it but my father, who has been a screenwriter for all my films including RRR…We discussed a bit about it, and he is working on the story,” he said.
Rajamouli is currently working on his next film which will star Mahesh Babu.
