Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan is juggling his responsibilities as an actor and Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Recently, the actor-politician took time out to grace the pre-release event of Shankar’s Game Changer, headlined by Ram Charan. Pawan, who is Charan’s uncle, praised his nephew to the skies, and lauded him for being a rather grounded person despite being surrounded by stardom.
Reminiscing about the times he grew up as the younger brother of legendary actor Chiranjeevi, Pawan Kalyan said, “Chiranjeevi garu had a tough journey to the top, and became the shelter for so many talents that came after him. When I was at home, and he used to return from shooting drenched in blood and sweat, I used to feel very guilty. I used to remove his socks and shoes and see the bruises, and the efforts he put in his films to ensure everyone around him had a good life. Ram Charan grew up watching all this, and he never lets success get to his head.”
Lauding Ram Charan’s performance in films like Rangasthalam, Pawan Kalyan said that he wasn’t surprised with the former’s talent because a ‘Mega Star’s son has to be a Global Star.’ In fact, the Thammudu actor also revealed one aspect of Ram Charan that fills him with envy. “Ram Charan is like a brother to me, and I am very happy and proud of his success. But I am jealous of the way he rides a horse. I don’t get jealous very often. But when I saw him in Magadheera… I was floored. He is someone who came well-prepared in many arts, and I think a lot of people still don’t understand his potential,” said the actor-politcian, recollecting an incident from Gabbar Singh that had the audience in splits. “We were shooting in Kutch, and I had to ride a horse in a scene. Just because I am called Power Star, it doesn’t mean I know everything. I whispered to the horse that I didn’t know riding, but take this carrot. The horse carried me wonderfully.”
In a long speech at the event, which was attended by the likes of Shankar, Anjali, SJ Suryah, Naveen Chandra, and Srikanth, Pawan Kalyan also spoke about how Telugu cinema is large enough to have fans for all actors, and it is important all films work well. Addressing the audience, he said, “All of you are fans of someone, and you might like one hero more than the other. You might like Jr NTR, Allu Arjun, Prabhas, Mahesh Babu, and Nani. In fact, a lot of people in my family, including my sister, likes Nani films a lot. It comes from what my father said, and what Chiranjeevi garu espoused in his life. He never stopped us from watching films of any actors just because he was a huge star. He wanted all films to do well because it helped the economy, and the health of Telugu cinema. These are the lessons that Ram Charan has imbibed too.”
Game Changer, which is set to hit screens worldwide on January 10, will clash it out at the box-office on the festive occasion of Sankranti. Although films of three big stars — Ram Charan, Nandamuri Balakrishna (Daaku Maharaaj), Venkatesh (Sankrantiki Vasthunnam) — are releasing in the festive window, each of them are releasing a day apart from each other to give space for all films to not just exist, but thrive too.
