Kajal Aggarwal’s personality makes her character in Satyabhama edgy, says Sashi Kiran Tikka

In an interview with indianexpress.com, Sashi Kiran Tikka reveals that during the writing of the film, Kajal Aggarwal’s name popped up in everyone’s mind and the team unanimously agreed that she was fit for the part.

“This is a character that we wrote wherein we wanted a hero from a commercial space, who has done a lot of mainstream commercial cinema because while shaping up the character, there was a lot of commerciality to it,” says Sashi.

The filmmaker adds, “At the same time there is a lot of softness, vulnerability and emotion to the character. When we were writing, we thought of many actors. But the moment we thought of Kajal, the script started going really well. We didn’t know if she is going to agree or not but once we had a good story in place, we met her.”

The actor too came on board the film happily once she heard the script.

“Akhil narrated the script to her and she loved it and she said, ‘I am doing this.’ We thought of making a very small film, with a very small budget and all but as we started writing, the story started growing, the character started getting better. Kajal actually helped write better,” he says.

Sashi Kiran Tikka also feels that for her role in Satyabhama, it is actually her off-screen personality that adds more value to the character.

“So her personality which she has outside of films, if you meet her outside, you will know what she brings to the film. She is a mother now. She has a 14-month infant at home. She is balancing that with films and she has not given it up. This spirit, this fighter attitude is what reflects in her character as well. Her off-screen personality makes this character more edgy,” says Sashi, who is known for directing films such as Goodachari and Major.

Satya Bhama is expected to go on floors by end of June and the actor starts shooting her part in August.

Will we see Kajal Aggarwal do some intense action?

Sashi answers, “There is quite a bit of action. It’s going to be realistic. There is a certain reality and also some commerciality to it. The story is very realistic and it is set in a very commercial space.”

Sashi Kiran Tikka is also working on his upcoming directorial. “By September or October, I should be announcing my film as well. I am writing the script simultaneously. My office is filled with writers. We have so much writing happening. It is from my heart again and in an emotional space. It’s going to be like Major. It’s very close to my heart,” he concluded.
