Dulquer Salmaan-Rana Daggubati’s Kaantha goes on floors; Bhagyashri Borse, Samuthirakani join the cast

Pegged as a period drama set in the 1950s Madras, Kaantha is directed by The Hunt for Veerappan maker Selvamani Selvaraj. The film stars Dulquer Salmaan.

Netflix’s The Hunt for Veerappan, one of the most prolific documentaries on forest brigand Veerappan, was helmed by director Selvamani Selvaraj. After earning his stripes with this series, the filmmaker is now directing Kaantha, a multilingual project, headlined by Dulquer Salmaan. Backed by Dulquer’s Wayfarer Films and Rana Daggubati’s Spirit Media, an arm of the legendary Suresh Productions, Kaantha stars Bhagyashri Borse and Samuthirakani alongside Dulquer.

In the official press statement about the film, and the 60th year of Suresh Productions, Rana wrote, “Partnering with Wayfarer Films for Kaantha adds a new dimension to this project. Their commitment to quality cinema aligns perfectly with our vision at Spirit Media. Kaantha is the ideal film to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Suresh Productions and mark the beginning of a new era with Spirit Media.”

Pegged as a period drama set in the 1950s Madras, Kaantha has noted writer Tamizhprabha working on the screenplay and dialogues along with Selvamani. Tamizhprabha is known for his works like Sarpatta Parambarai and Thangalaan.

While the rest of the details about the primary cast and crew are yet to be announced, the shooting has started in Hyderabad. With Mahanati cinematographer Dani Sanchez Lopez part of the puja ceremony in Hyderabad, which was graced by veteran actor Venkatesh, it is expected that he would be onboard the multilingual film.

Meanwhile, Dulquer will next be seen in Venky Atluri’s Lucky Baskhar, which is set for a release on October 31. He is also working on Pavan Sadineni’s Aakasam Lo Oka Tara.
