Allu Arjun’s stylist Harmann Kaur decodes his ‘Stylish Star’ persona, recalls when his custom lenses for Pushpa got delayed for months
Harmann Kaur has worked as Allu Arjun's stylist for several years and says that his knowledge of fashion is impeccable. On the actor's birthday, here's looking at what makes him so suave.

Allu Arjun‘s acting has already earned him legions of fans. However, if there is one thing that his admirers love about him besides his acting prowess, it’s his ability to look so suave. It is because of this that he has been given the moniker of ‘Stylish Star’. Harmann Kaur, who worked with the actor as his stylist until six months ago, spoke to indianexpress.com about what makes him stand apart from his contemporaries.
Harmann had been working with Arjun since 2018, before they took a break some months ago. When asked what makes Arjun stand apart from other celebrities, she said, “Everybody has their own way of carrying clothes and I think everybody dresses very well. There is no comparison as such but I think sir (Arjun) has an edge because his confidence is what brings out the difference.”
While the actor enjoys popularity around the world for his films and personality, behind the scenes he is a very accommodating artist but at the same time, very clear with his vision for himself.
“He may a really huge star, but when it comes to working with his team, he is very accommodating, humble and sweet to all of us. He is always open to suggestions. At the same time, he is very particular about what he wants. So, he knows what he wants, and more than that, he knows what he does not want… He is very particular about his sense of style, and that is why perhaps he is known as the Stylish Star,” said Harmann, who also styled him for his appearance at the Times Square, New York where he celebrated India’s 75th Independence Day.
Harmann joined Arjun when he was shooting for his film Naa Peru Surya, Naa Illu India. She recalled meeting him for the first time in his vanity van, where he told her to learn as much as she could before beginning work. Harmann was always aware of the actor’s image of being the ‘Stylish Star’.

“There always was this immense pressure that he is known as the Stylish Star and a little hit or miss from our side can bring a lot of social media backlash because his pictures go viral every now and then and if you are not delivering to the T, then obviously you also kind of take a hit as a stylist,” she said, adding, “So there has been a lot of responsibilities on you, lots of eyes on you and immense pressure but at the same time I know that he has so much confidence in what he wears, he has his own personal swag. Mostly it’s not the clothes that he wears or how we put everything together for him, it’s the swag he walks in the room with.”
However, Arjun reduced the work pressure by giving clear instructions about what he wants. “If the brief comes that ‘this is the colour I want, this is the silhouette I want, I want my outfit to look like this’, so you don’t have to bring 10 options and you know what is needed for the brief. It takes away the process of getting multiple options and sending him look-books from multiple designers. When he tells me ‘this kind of silhouette I want’ I know what designer makes something like that and which brands have clothes like that, and you put together the look and it’s easier and simpler,” said Harmann, who also recently styled cricketer Shubhman Gill for Indian Sports Honours 2023.

While Harmann will not be on board for Arjun’s Pushpa: The Rule, she clearly remembers the time she and Arjun sat down to discuss his Pushpa: The Rise look. Recalling the interactions, she said, “We sat together as a team, we chalked about plans and ideas, references and how the make up is going to be, how the hair is going to be. So already there was a lot of research done by sir and me before we designed the whole look. Then, of course, another team came over and everything was handed over to them and everyone worked collectively on Pushpa look.”
Recalling a stressful memory of working on Pushpa 1, Harmann said, “The look was already fixed before the lockdown happened. And I remember Preetisheel’s (Singh Dsouza) team who had done the make-up for him wanted particular lenses which had a bloodstain in the eye, which we ordered from Los Angeles. Our package got stuck for months together because there was a lockdown. And I was coordinating that and writing an email to DHL. Even after the lockdown was lifted, it took me a month to get the package and I was worried that what if the movie stars and the lenses do not arrive. That is something that stayed with me.”
Harmann is currently also working with Vijay Deverakonda for his upcoming film Kushi. The film also stars Samanatha Ruth Prabhu and will be released on September 1.
