Sudha Murthy recalls being called ‘cattle-class person’ despite having business class ticket: ‘I was wearing salwar suit’

Chairperson of the Infosys Foundation Sudha Murthy will soon be seen on The Kapil Sharma Show. Ahead of the episode’s premiere, a preview clip on social media shows Murthy recalling an anecdote about how she was once referred to as a ‘cattle-class person.’

In the promo, Sudha Murthy said in Hindi, “Chaar paanch saal pehle main salwar kameez pehni thi aur business class ka ticket tha mere paas. Main us queue mein khadi thi, toh unko laga ki salwaar kameez pehen liya toh didi hai, behenji hai… ‘Arre cattle-class log hai. Unko kya pata hai economy ke logon ko business class mein aane diya.’ Main jaake unko puch liya, ki what is cattle-class (Four-five years ago, I had worn a salwar suit and I had a business class ticket. I was in the queue, getting ready for my flight, when a few people made assumptions about my ‘class’ and went on to address me as ‘cattle class.’ I went up to them and asked what they meant by cattle-class person).”

She went on to add that a person’s class is not defined by how much money they have or what kind of property they own: “Class maane apni kaam mein shraddha rakhe aur accha kaam karte hai na woh class log hote hai. Paise mein nahi hai, ki economy class maane kam class (Those who do their work passionately are ‘classy people’).”

Sudha Murthy then gave the example of Mother Teresa and called her a classy person. She also praised host Kapil Sharma, and said that he is the ‘class’ in comedy. Sudha Murthy is a well-known writer, who is married to business tycoon and Infosys co-founder Narayan Murthy.
