Jyoti Amge makes waves as first Indian on US series Freak Show

The latest season, which premieres on TV in the US today, is set in ’50s America in the town of Jupiter in Florida. It is based on the concept of a travelling circus, which runs shows with a cast of performers with varying physical challenges, and how it manages to stay afloat. The cast remains predominantly the same — Jessica Lange, Emma Roberts and Angela Bassett — from the previous three seasons. Lange essays the role of the circus owner.

Amge is Mom Petite on the show, a role that mirrors her real-life quality of being the shortest woman in the world. “I don’t have a scary character on the show. I have a few dialogues in English, but mostly I am in this show for my looks, and being the shortest woman,” says Amge. The 20-year-old has done road shows globally because of her height and this is her first appearance for an international TV show as an actor.

Amge had never heard of American Horror Story until she arrived on the scene. She acknowledges getting scared at times. “I feel scared watching it but I like scaring people more. When we go for late night shoots in the forests of New Orleans, I scare the other cast,” says Amge. With a steady flow of offers from Hollywood, Amge is contemplating her next move.
