After a decade-long journey on the popular sitcom Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, actress Shubhangi Atre has confirmed her exit from the show. In a recent interview, the actress, who played Angoori Bhabhi in the show, revealed that she will be replaced by former Angoori Bhabhi, Shilpa Shinde. Shubhangi had originally stepped into the role in 2016 after Shilpa quit the show following a fallout with the makers.

Confirming her exit in an interview with Bombay Times, Shubhangi Atre said she had always promised producer Benaifer Kohli that her journey on the show would “start and end with a bang.” She added that she couldn’t have asked for a “better exit.” Shubhangi also shared that, as an artiste, Angoori Bhabhi’s character had been a blessing in disguise, but she now wants to explore a new role. Choosing not to reveal the reasons behind her departure, Shubhangi stated, “After seeing so much in life, I am in fighter mode now and focused only on my daughter and my work.”

The actress also recalled getting quite emotional before leaving the show and expressed immense gratitude for everything Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai has given her. “It definitely felt like leaving home.” Speaking about her celebrated character, Shubhangi explained that replacing someone is never easy. She said that taking on an already-established role requires absorbing its nuances without making the character look like a copy.

A few weeks ago, reports suggested that Shilpa Shinde would be returning as Angoori Bhabhi. Confirming the news, Shubhangi recalled discussing with her mother how Shilpa had quit the show within ten months. Calling the character her “baby,” Shubhangi said she is glad to hand it back to Shilpa. Wishing Shilpa and the team all the very best for the show’s 2.0 version, Shubhangi also described Shilpa as a fantastic actor.
In 2016, Shilpa Shinde quit Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, accusing the makers of mental torture. Her exit sparked a major controversy at the time. Matters escalated further when Shilpa claimed the makers were pressuring her to sign an exclusive contract that would prevent her from working elsewhere. She also alleged that her dues had not been cleared. In response to her accusations, the production house sent her a legal notice, alleging breach of contract and unprofessional conduct.
While Shubhangi Atre has quit the show, she will be seen in the Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai film, which releases on February 6, 2026.
