Shark Tank India’s Anupam Mittal says ‘India’s Got Latent wasn’t some lost episode of Satyamev Jayate’: ‘Summon YouTube too’
Anupam Mittal called Ranveer Allahbadia's obscene remarks on Samay Raina's show India’s Got Latent 'totally unacceptable in any civilized society'.

Ranveer Allahbadia‘s obscene remarks on Samay Raina’s show India’s Got Latent led to widespread outrage and multiple FIRs. However, the authorities’ aggressive pursuit of Samay and Ranveer has sparked mixed reactions among netizens. Recently, Shark Tank India’s Anupam Mittal addressed the controversy in a long post on LinkedIn. While Anupam hasn’t taken any sides, he urged that YouTube also should be held equally responsible.
Calling Ranveer’s comments on the show ‘totally unacceptable in any civilized society’, Anupam wrote, “Summon YouTube to the High Court too, why just Ranveer and Apoorva? See, what happened was messy, crass, and undeniably wrong. The statements & language used are totally unacceptable in any civilized society. But before we get all sanskari & load up our guns, lets understand what the real issue is. India’s Got Latent wasn’t some Satyamev Jayate ka lost episode; it was always about insults, vulgarity, irreverence & shock. Like it or hate it, that was the show.”
His note further read, “So, when the host & guests cross the line, can we get scandalized? That’s literally the algorithmic jackpot from their perspective. The reality is, that this isn’t about a few individuals but a broader social media phenomenon whose survival depends on increasing outrage. When one extreme becomes the norm, what does the algorithm do? Promotes the next level of obscenity. YouTube, Instagram, and digital media, platforms dangle virality like prasad, watch creators chase, and then step back when the fire starts. Ranveer and Apoorva messed up, really bad, and apologized. Shouldn’t we move our attention to the bigger issue?”
Anupam Mittal also suggested platforms like Instagram and YouTube should be held “accountable for what they serve up.” “Are our laws actually protecting young minds from explicit content? Why aren’t we holding platforms accountable for what they serve up? How is it that kids can still access far worse content with zero guardrails?” Anupam questioned. He further pointed out, “(YT is the worst of all offenders. For eg, although I have parental controls set up for my 7 yr old, I am shocked at the age-inappropriate content that YT keeps serving up). I personally think Ranveer, Apoorva, Samay et all are actually victims caught in an endless cycle of provocation for their relevance & survival. The real culprits are ‘Big-tech’ who take cover under digital intermediary laws that allow them to flout all responsibility & accountability. Imagine a newspaper or a TV channel publishing the type of content that these platforms carry with total impunity. It would lead to a mutiny,” he concluded.
Anupam Mittal is currently seen as a judge on Shark Tank India Season 4.
