Manjunath Shet, a retired Chief Manager at Bharat Petroleum Corporation, recently won Rs 12,50,000 on Amitabh Bachchan’s game show Kaun Banega Crorepati 10.

In an exclusive chat with indianexpress.com, Manjunath said, “I must say it was no less than a dream come true moment for me. It was a life changing experience. I understand that not everyone gets a chance to be on the hot seat. To be one among crores, I feel really lucky about it.”

The Bangalore resident shared that he has been trying to audition for KBC for many years now. He said, “Back then, with less usage of mobile phones, it was a difficult process. Thanks to Sony Liv app, it has now become easier and I could finally get through. It has been a long wait. Getting to meet Amitabh ji was one of my biggest dreams. I have grown up watching his films and it’s a big achievement for me to have interacted with him.”

When we asked if meeting Big B was the only reason to be on KBC, Manjunath said, “To be honest, it was one of the reasons. But then KBC is a platform where you can challenge your knowledge. As the tagline of the show says ‘Kab Tak Rokoge’, life also tried hard, but I could finally reach the hot seat. KBC is also a medium where you can discuss socially relevant topics. Being associated with UNICEF and working on various causes, I was glad to share my ideas on the stage. I work on the importance of immunization and since Amitabh Bachchan sir is also a brand ambassador for polio and Hepatitis B. It was an enriching experience sharing my ideas with him.”

Talking about his family’s reaction, the 64-year-old said, “They are really excited. The adulation and love that we are getting from our friends and community is amazing. We all are feeling like celebrities (smiles). For me, the prize money is not the takeaway. The important take away is the whole experience that has rejuvenated me. The KBC set exudes with energy and Amitabh Bachchan’s passion towards work and life has inspired me. I would now work with renewed vigour and enthusiasm.”

Sharing how he plans to use the prize money, Manjunath said, “It agonises me to see people not being able to afford medication. So, the major part of my prize money will go towards helping the needy. And the rest would be used by the family.”

Kaun Banega Crorepati airs Monday-Friday at 9 pm on Sony TV.
