Reports say Kanika Tiwari has been roped in to play the lead in Diya Aur Baati Hum 2.

To have Divyanka Tripathi as your sister is surely a blessing and a perk. But does that justify your mettle as an actress too? This is exactly what Kanika Tiwari needs to prove now. According to reports, Divyanka’s cousin sister Kanika has been cast to play the lead role in the reboot of Diya Aur Baati Hum. Just to let you know, this isn’t the first time Kanika will be facing the camera.

Kanika Tiwari had played Hrithik Roshan’s sister Shiksha Chauhan in Agneepath. She also acted in Kannada film Rangan Style.

She is the same girl who played Hrithik Roshan’s lovable sister in Agneepath four years back. The 20-year old is now ready to play the main protagonist in the new show. Diya Aur Baati Hum wrapped up on September 11 with its lead pair Sooraj and Sandhya, played by actors Ana Rashid and Deepika Singh respectively, dying in a bomb blast while saving the country from terrorists. The show is set to be revived with a fresh storyline and cast from next January, and the first actor to have been signed is Kanika.

Diya Aur Baati Hum was one of the top rated shows for Star Plus for years. But while its last few episodes, it had become the victim of repetitive plots and dragged storyline, leading to dropping TRPs. It’s makers had, therefore, taken the decision to pull it off, only to bring it back with a new subject. Now Diya Aur Baati Hum 2 will revolve around Sooraj and Sandhya’s daughter Khanak, casting of whom is also in the pipeline.

Bollywood filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt’s new show Naamkarann had replaced Diya Aur Baati Hum. The show, said to be inspired by Bhatt’s National Award-winning film Zakhm, is already getting rave reviews for its bold subject and real situations. While the channel seems to have only gained in the ratings for the same time slot with Naamkarann coming in, will the upcoming series of Diya Aur Baati Hum 2 also contribute to its profits?
