At least four people were killed in an accident as multiple cars and buses caught fire on the Delhi-Agra Yamuna Expressway near Mathura after a vehicle pile-up. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister
Yogi Adityanath took cognizance of the accident in Mathura district and expressed grief over the loss of lives. CM Adityanath also announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives in the accident and Rs 50 thousand for the injured.

Adityanath directed the officials to ensure immediate, appropriate, and free treatment for the injured while providing them all possible assistance.

Multiple buses were gutted in the fire on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura in the early hours of Tuesday. As many as 11 fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the fire and conduct a rescue operation.

So far four deaths have been confirmed as authorities assess the situation.

The incident comes a day after large parts of Uttar Pradesh were blanketed by thick smog, with air quality worsening across several cities and visibility plunging sharply. Agra, in particular, witnessed dense fog that completely obscured the Taj Mahal from view. A resident described the conditions as so severe that even vehicles on the roads were barely visible.

SSP Mathura, Shlok Kumar said, “The accident took place at the Yamuna Expressway Milestone 127. The reason was low visibility. Seven buses and three cars collided as a result of which, a fire broke out in all the vehicles. The rescue operation is nearing completion.” He said so far, four people are confirmed to have been killed in the accident. Twenty-five people have been admitted to the hospital.
