Child rights body sends notice to Sony TV for airing ‘inappropriate content’ on Super Dancer 3

(Photo: PR) On Tuesday, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) issued a notice against Sony Pictures Networks for airing ‘inappropriate content’ in an episode of Super Dancer 3. The said video, now viral on social media, has a segment where a child contestant is asked ‘inappropriate and sexually explicit questions’ about his parents by the judges. The commission has demanded the channel remove the content from all platforms immediately and sought an explanation for the same.
The child rights body said it came across a video on Twitter in which judges of a dance show asked a child vulgar and sexually explicit questions regarding his parents on stage.
“Further, the commission on viewing the said video observes that all questions asked to the minor were inappropriate and disturbing in nature and not meant to be asked to children. Therefore, your good offices are requested to urgently take down the said episode and further send an explanation to the commission as to why such inappropriate questions were asked to the minor child artist on a kid’s dance show,” the NCPCR statement said, as reported by PTI. It also requested Sony Pictures Networks to not air such ‘inappropriate content on your channel’.

A source close to the show told indianexpress.com that the said episode aired four years back, and was cleared back then. Expressing amusement at how an old piece of content is being put under scanner, the source added that the channel and production team will take necessary action, and file their statement with the commission soon.
Judged by Shilpa Shetty, Geeta Kapoor and Anurag Basu, Super Dancer 3 had its grand finale on June 23, 2019. Popular television star Rithvik Dhanjani and comedian Paritosh Tripathi hosted the show. The winner of the third season was Kolkata’s Rupsa Batabyal. Super Dancer wrapped up in 2021 after the fourth season, and was replaced by another dance-based show India’s Best Dancer on the channel.
