Bigg Boss 18 recently held its grand premiere. On the hit reality show, hosted by Salman Khan, there are has 18 contestants inside the house but the show also has an actual animal – a donkey as the 19th contestant. The inclusion of a donkey on the show has made Shaurya Agrawal, an advocacy associate with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India write a letter to Bigg Boss 18 host Salman Khan.
The letter says that the PETA team is “inundated with complaints by members of the public who are deeply distressed over the keeping of a donkey in the Bigg Boss house.” The letter stated that the audience’s concerns are valid and must not be ignored. PETA India has urged Salman to use his influence as a host and a known face “to surrender the donkey to PETA India, to rehome in a sanctuary with other rescued donkeys.”

The letter also made it clear that the “use of animals on a show set is no laughing matter” and urged Salman to “avoid using animals as props for entertainment.” The letter also added that the donkey was brought into the house by one of the contestants, and the insiders on social media too shared that this donkey, named Max, it is the pet of contestant Advocate Gunaratna Sadavarte. The letter also mentioned that, “It is reported Advocate Sadavarte keeps the donkey for research regarding milk. But donkeys produce milk strictly for their foals.” It added that it would not only “prevent stress to the animals and upset to viewers” but also “set a powerful precedent”.
