KJR Studios, the production house behind Ayalaan, has released a video on what went into the making of their sci-fi project. Titled The Making of Ayalaan, the 20-minute video has Sivakarthikeyan, director R Ravikumar, music composer AR Rahman, editor Ruben, cinematographer Nirav Shah, VFX specialist Bejoy Arputharaj, and other crew members talk about the amount of labour that has gone into the creation of Ayalaan.

Director R Ravikumar revealed that he came up with the idea back in 2015, and told Sivakarthikeyan about it. “I told him that if he was ready to do the film, he would develop the idea or would abandon it because I believed only he could do that project then.” Siva said, “When I first heard the script, I was like ‘I wanted to become an actor to make films like these’. So, I immediately said okay to it. First, I got to read a portion of the film, then more of it, and then a book. That’s how it progressed.”

This is the first collaboration of Sivakarthikeyan and AR Rahman, and talking about the film, the famed composer said, “In Hollywood, there have been films like this. For our people, this is the first time. The CGI has improved in India as well. I liked the conviction of the director and his vision. I was working with Siva for the first time, so I agreed.”

Here’s the video:

Ayalaan is about an alien soldier coming to Earth to stop a man-made disaster. It joins forces with Tamizh (Sivakarthikeyan), who has abundant love for all organisms. Other than Sivakarthikeyan, the film also stars Rakul Preet Singh, Yogi Babu, and Karunkaran. Siddharth lent his voice to the alien.
