Vishnu Vishal says Mammootty’s 2023 hit made on a Rs 25 crore budget was a key inspiration for Aaryan

Kannur Squad is a road-movie-style procedural inspired by several real-life incidents. It follows an underfunded team of Kerala cops, nicknamed ‘Kannur Squad’, as they embark on a nationwide hunt for the criminals behind a home invasion in Kerala.

Kannur Squad was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 25 crore. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 40.17 crore in India and Rs 82 crore worldwide. The film marked the directorial debut of cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Roby Varghese Raj and was based on a script by his brother, actor Rony David Raj, who also appeared in a major role. Kannur Squad also featured Azees Nedumangad, Shabareesh Varma, and Arjun Radhakrishnan in important roles.

Aaryan follows a team of police officers on the trail of a serial killer who challenges the force to keep up with him. The film also features Selvaraghavan, Shraddha Srinath, and Karunakaran in pivotal roles. Aaryan is scheduled to release in theatres on October 31.
