Good things come for those who wait, they say. Actor Vishal, who started his career as an assistant director in the early 2000s, is set to begin shooting for his directorial debut, Thupparivaalan 2. A sequel to Thupparivaalan (2017), directed by Mysskin, the film will see him reprising his role as the sleuth Kaniyan Poongundran. Initially, Mysskin was attached to direct the sequel, too, but due to misunderstandings between him and the actor, he stepped down from the project.
After multiple delays, the film is finally set to go on floors from November-December. The Sandakozhi actor had a series of meetings with stakeholders in Mumbai. In an exclusive conversation with indianexpress.com, he said, “I was in Mumbai to have a few meetings about starting the filming of Thupparivaalan 2. The film will go on floors next month.” While the first film was firmly set in Tamil Nadu, this time, Kaniyan Poongundran is set to solve a case on a global scale. “We will be shooting in various places like the United Kingdom, Malta, Azerbaijan, and Malaysia,” revealed Vishal.
Vishal, who was recently seen in Hari’s Rathnam, hasn’t signed any acting project yet, to completely focus on his debut directorial. It is expected that Prasanna would reprise his role of Manohar.
While the sequel, backed by Vishal’s home banner Vishal Film Factory, had actors like Rahman and Gauthami as part of the cast when Mysskin was supposed to helm it, there have been no official updates if they are still part of the sequel. Thupparivaalan 2 will have music by Ilaiyaraaja, which marks the first time the legendary composer is working with Vishal.
