Vijay Sethupathi revealed that Anurag Kashyap had a shoulder injury while filming the now-famous climax of Maharaja

He recalled that Anurag was injured during the film’s climax scene but continued without hesitation. “He had a serious shoulder injury but understood how important the shot was. He said, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll crawl on one hand. It’ll look more real.’ He pushed through the pain and delivered. That’s his commitment.”

Maharaja received rave reviews from critics and performed well not only in India but also internationally. In China, it became the highest-grossing Indian film since 2018, earning ₹91.55 crore within a month of its release. The film also found success on Netflix, where viewers praised its gripping climax and final twist. The film, while massively loved, was also criticized by a section of the audience for its overt and unnecessary graphic violence, as well as its similarities to the Korean classic Oldboy. 

Vijay Sethupathi was last seen in Viduthalai Part 2. After Ace, he will appear in director Puri Jagannadh’s pan-Indian project featuring Tabu, which was recently announced. He is also preparing to begin filming for Farzi Season 2.
