Vijay Antony: ‘Not supporting it, but drinking is common to both men and women’
Actor Vijay Antony was promoting his upcoming movie Romeo, and at the press meet, he was asked about the film's poster.

Actor Vijay Antony is busy promoting his upcoming film Romeo in Chennai, where he was asked about the poster of the movie, which features Vijay Antony and Mrinalini sitting on a decorated bed on their first night. In the poster, Mirnalini is seen fixing herself a drink, while Antony can be seen perturbed looking at her as he holds the jar of milk.
At the press meet of the movie, Antony was asked when everyone is striving to get rid of alcoholism, his film Romeo seems to be promoting drinking among women. Replying to the statement, the actor said, “Let’s not demarcate that alcohol is only for men. Drinking is for everyone. If men can drink, women too can. I am not promoting drinking. Just saying everything is common for both men and women. If we are to say it is wrong to drink, we should tell it to both genders.”
When asked if the film is trying to claim that the IT revolution has made women drink, Vijay Antony said, “Nothing like that. We have been drinking for a long time. We used to drink ‘sarayam’ (now banned in Tamil Nadu). Now, we drink different things. Two thousand years before, even Jesus (Christ) drank wine.”
Vijay Antony is known for his sarcastic answers, and he has yet again proven it at the press meet. His statement has gone viral on social media, bringing much-needed publicity for Romeo, helmed by debutant director Vinayak Vaidhiyanathan.
