After the blockbuster success of Vikram, which earned more than Rs 400 crore, Kamal Haasan has become active as a producer with more than four films in production. His production company, Raaj Kamal Films International, is bankrolling Sivakarthikeyan’s 21st film titled Amaran. Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, the film features Sivakarthikeyan in the role of a soldier.
While Haasan is known for ghost directing his films and restraining the freedom of his directors, Amaran director Rajkumar Periasamy has a different story tell. In a recent interview with the Tamil magazine Ananda Vikatan, the director praised Haasan for being a great producer. He mentioned that the actor-filmmaker never tried to interfere or micromanage him and gave complete freedom to work on Amaran.
He said, “Kamal sir is a great strength for us. He was the one who thought Sivakarthikeyan would be very suitable for this story. He never visited the sets, neither in Chennai nor in Kashmir. Not even once. He does not call us every day to inquire. He gives the director that much freedom. If there is any problem for us, he will immediately come and help us. If there is any problem with getting schedules, permissions, or anything like that, we will immediately get a call from Kamal sir asking us if he has to do something for us.”
Amaran, also starring Sai Pallavi, Bhuvan Arora, Rahul Bose, Lallu, and Shreekumar, features music by GV Prakash Kumar. The film is based on journalist Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh’s book India’s Most Fearless. The trailer of the movie showcased Sivakarthikeyan, who has undergone a massive physical transformation, as a beefed-up soldier. This is the second film of Rajkumar Periyasamy, who previously directed the film Rangoon, which, despite decent reviews, failed to make an impact at the box office.
