So, finally, Aditya Karikalan (Vikram) and Nandini aka Pazhuvur Rani (Aishwarya Rai) will meet in the second part of Ponniyin Selvan, which is set to be released on April 28. The song “Chinnanjiru Nilave” is the lamentation of Karikalan, who is abandoned by Nandini during their teens.

Written by Ilango Krishnan, who has penned all the other songs of Ponniyin Selvan, “Chinnanjiru Nilave” has the aesthetics of the iconic Tamil poet Bharathiyar. If it reminds you of one of Bharathiyar’s Kannama songs–especially “Theertha Karaiyinile”–then you are not alone. “Chinnanjiru Nilave” is a tribute to Bharathiyar’s poem. Both are about the pain of the lover who is missing his beloved, who has failed him. ‘Theertha Karaiyinile” was a part of Bharathiyar’s poem, which was popularised by the film Varumayin Niram Sivappu, directed by Balachander. The song was composed by MS Viswanathan in the film, which has Kamal and Sridevi in the lead roles.

As far as the story goes, Nandini schemes against Aditya Karikalan and invites him to Thanjavur as he has been avoiding visiting the capital due to her presence. However, when the invite comes from her, he wastes no time in heeding it.

The second and final part of Ponniyin Selvan will finally unravel all the secrets behind it and will reveal who will be crowned in the end. Directed by Mani Ratnam, the film, based on the novels of Kalki Krishnamurthy, also stars Karthi, Jayam Ravi, and Trisha. AR Rahman has composed the music for the film.
