Nelson Dilipkumar pens note after Jailer success: ‘Electrifying atmosphere created inside theatres will be etched in memory forever’
Jailer, led by Rajinikanth, minted more than Rs 340 crore all India nett and achieved an impressive worldwide box office collection of Rs 590 crore.

(Photo: Nelson Dilipkumar/Instagram) Filmmaker Nelson Dilipkumar has thanked megastar Rajinikanth and the entire cast and crew of his recent directorial Jailer after the film emerged a global box office success. Nelson took to his Instagram profile and posted a heartfelt note, acknowledging the contribution of everyone towards the making of the film and especially the reception of fans.
The Rajinikanth-led action thriller released in August and has minted more than Rs 340 crore all India nett. With a domestic gross of more than Rs 395 crore and overseas of Rs 195 crore, Jailer has achieved an impressive worldwide box office collection of Rs 590 crore.
The director began the note by thanking everyone involved in making Jailer a “massive success”, including all the distributors and exhibitors of the film.
“Superstar Rajinikanth sir thank you so much for the opportunity. Your energy, commitment, dedication, passion, simplicity and humbleness have always been a learning experience for me and the whole crew. Your phenomena has pushed boundaries, broke records and made Jailer a tremendous success. I shall cherish this to be one of the most treasured experiences of my life,” a part of his note read.
Nelson also thanked actors Tamannaah Bhatia, Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Jackie Shroff for “elevating” the film with their presence. The director also thanked music composer Anirudha for his work on the film, calling it the “soul” of Jailer.
“Tamannaah ji I feel so humbled by your magnanimity in accepting the role. We had a wonderful time working with you. Mohanlal sir, Shiva Rajkumar sir, Jackie Shroff sir I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your presence has elevated Jailer to greater heights.
“Rockstar Anirudh, you have always given me your love and unwavering support. Your music is the soul of Jailer. Thank you so much. Keep rocking and keep inspiring!!… Thank you Ramya Krishnan mam, Sunil Varma sir, Nagendra Babu sir, Kishore Kumar sir, Vinayakan chetta, Vasanth Ravi, Yogi Babu, VTV Ganesh, Redin Kingsley and all the other cast members. It was indeed a great pleasure working with you all.”

The filmmaker concluded the note by thanking the fans and audience and said Jailer wouldn’t have become what it is, “if not for you all”. Nelson wrote, “Your positive word of mouth has been instrumental in Jailer’s historic success in all the four South Indian languages and overseas. The overwhelming response and the electrifying atmosphere that you created inside the theatres will be etched in my memory forever. Ever grateful to you for it. Thank you for your unconditional love and support.”
Currently, the only movie standing between Jailer and the title of the “highest-grossing Tamil film of all time” is S Shankar’s science-fantasy action film 2.0 (2018), which also starred Rajinikanth. According to Sacnilk, 2.0 amassed a global box office collection of Rs 723.30 crore during its theatrical run.
Jailer had earlier surpassed the total collection of Mani Ratnam’s epic historical action movie, Ponniyin Selvan: I, which earned Rs 488.36 crore during its entire run.
