If the devil-may-care attitude had a face, it would look like Tamil actor Mansoor Ali Khan. The veteran actor, who was once a dreaded onscreen villain, is also known for adding sarcastic humour to his villain roles. Lokesh Kanagaraj once revealed that he wrote Kaithi with Mansoor Ali Khan as the protagonist, but the film later starred Karthi in the lead role. However, in Vijay’s Leo, Mansoor is finally teaming up with Lokesh. In a recent interview, the actor shared his experience of working with Vijay.

Leo is not the first collaboration between Vijay and Mansoor. He was part of Vijay’s debut film Naalya Theerppu. Minsaara Kanna, Deva, Maanbumigu Manavan, and Sendhoorapandi are the other collaborations between the two actors. After a long time, Leo has brought them together. Talking about Vijay’s formative years, Mansoor said, “To be frank, back then for one film I was paid Rs 4 lakhs, and Vijay was paid only 2 lakhs. He has come from that stage because of his effort.”

He added, “For him, it’s all cinema. He shoots 40 takes for a dance step. If it had been me, I would dance twice and would have left saying that’s all I can do. But Vijay is spending so much time on a single shot. They have sculpted Leo scene by scene.”

The actor also shared about working with Anurag Kashyap. “I saw in papers that Anurag Kashyap wanted to act in Lokesh’s film and die in it. A few days later, I see him sitting opposite me. He came and fired his gun ‘tup tup’… Aiyayo (realises he is revealing too much about the film). Get lost man. I won’t tell anything about Leo, go away.”

Mansoor also revealed why he missed out on acting in Kaithi. “I was asked to meet SR Prabhu, the producer of Kaithi. Lokesh had told him that I should play the role. However, when the opportunity came my way, I was arrested (for protesting against a government scheme) and sent to Puzhal jail. They wouldn’t have shared this detail for obvious reasons.”

Over the years, Mansoor Ali Khan has acted alongside all the top stars of Tamil cinema including Rajinikanth, Ajith Kumar, and Vijayakanth. He is noted for his roles in films like Minsaara Kanna, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, Captain Prabhakaran, and Asuran.
