Laal Salaam actor Dhanya Balakrishna denies writing derogatory post about Tamils, apologises: ‘I don’t have enough evidence to prove it’
A derogatory post attributed to Dhanya Balakrishnan has resurfaced ahead of the release of her film Laal Salam, which has Rajinikanth in the lead role.

Actress Dhanya Balakrishnan, known for films such as 7aum Arivu and Raja Rani, has apologized for an old Facebook post attributed to her. In the post, the actress allegedly referred to Tamilians as people constantly begging for essentials like water and electricity from Karnataka. The 12-year-old post has resurfaced online ahead of the release of Laal Salam, in which she plays a lead role. Now, the actress has issued a statement claiming that the post was made by an unknown person who wanted to tarnish her image.
However, the actress further claimed that she couldn’t prove her innocence due to the lack of evidence. She cited this as the reason for staying silent about the issue for all this time. “Though I did not make this statement, unfortunately, my name is involved in this. So, I apologize to Tamil people from the bottom of my heart. I regret this incident has happened and has hurt Tamil people.”
She added, “I also regret that this issue has caused hurt to Aishwarya Rajinikanth, Rajinikanth, and their fans. As I don’t have enough evidence to prove my innocence, I am apologizing to you by swearing my innocence on my work with the hope you all will accept it.”

Back in 2012, when the IPL team Chennai Super Kings qualified for the playoffs, Dhanya’s Facebook post claimed that Chennai people are living at the mercy of the people of Bengaluru. The post claimed that Chennai people (Tamils) beg for water and electricity from Bengaluru and added that Chennai people come to Karnataka’s capital and make it unclean.
It created a huge backlash back then, and subsequently Dhanya claimed she is quitting Tamil cinema. However, she continued to act in Tamil films and series like Raja Rani, Carbon, Yaar Ivan, and As I am Suffering From Kadhal. As the post resurfaced, Dhanya faced severe backlash from many online.
