Looks like director P Vasu is following a familiar template in Chandramukhi 2. Till now, it is unknown whether Chandramukhi 2 will just be a retelling of the first part Chandramukhi, which starred Rajinikanth and Jyotika in the lead roles, or it will be a continuation of the 2005 film. However, a behind-the-scenes photo from the sets of the film hints that Vasu will be telling a similar story as Kangana Ranaut and Raghava Lawrence are dressed up as royals. One can expect a flashback portion in the second part of the film as well.

In the picture, Kangana is seen as a dancer in a red saree adorned with a lot of jewellery. Raghavan is also dressed up in the same colour costume, and the director is all smiles in the picture.

Chandramukhi, the Tamil remake of Malayalam hit Manchitrathazhu, follows the story of Ganga (Jyotika), who along with her husband Senthil (Prabhu) buys an age-old palace, which is rumoured to be haunted by the ghost of a dancer named Chandramukhi. As the whole family moves into the renovated palace, sinister events bother the man of the house, who invites his psychiatrist friend Saravanan (Rajinikanth) to unravel the mystery. The film ended up as a blockbuster and Jyotika earned a lot of praise for her performance.

After about eighteen years, director P Vasu has gone back to the world of Chandramukhi. The second part also stars Vadivelu and Radhika Sarathkumar.

Chandramukhi is one of the many remakes of Manchitrathazhu, which was directed by Fazil. The film released in 1993 with Shobana, Suresh Gopi, and Mohanlal playing the lead roles, and the legacy of the three-decade-old movie continues in terms of remakes and sequels (Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 is also in the making).
