Actor-director Dhanush and director Aishwarya Rajinikanth have finally been granted divorce by the Chennai family court on Wednesday, November 27. After being married for 18 years, they decided to part ways over irreconcilable differences. They have two sons, Yatra and Linga, and will continue to co-parent them. Earlier this year, Dhanush and Aishwarya filed for divorce after announcing their separation on social media in January, 2022. While the two did not appear for the court hearing three times, they were present in the Chennai court on November 21 for the in-camera proceedings.

The court’s verdict was announced after both parties expressed their incapability to continue living together. Dhanush and Aishwarya appeared before the family court in Chennai on November 21, where they expressed their desire to part ways. The judge looked after their divorce case and adjourned the hearing to November 27, when the final verdict was expected.

The couple tied the knot in 2004, in an elaborate wedding ceremony in Chennai. They released a joint statement revealing their decision to part ways a while ago. The statement read, “18 years of togetherness as friends, couple, as parents and well-wishers to each other. The journey has been of growth, understanding, adjusting, and adapting. Today we stand at a place where our paths separate. Aishwaryaa/Dhanush and I have decided to part ways as a couple and take time to understand us as individuals for the better. Please do respect our decision and give us the needed privacy to deal with this (sic).”

Meanwhile, days after Nayanthara wrote an open letter on social media to him, claiming that he denied giving an NOC (No Objection Certificate) for her Netflix documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale, and also issued a legal notice claiming an amount of Rs 10 crore, Dhanush has now sued the actor. According to a report in The Hindu, Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films Private Limited has filed a civil suit against Nayanthara, Vignesh Shivan and her company Rowdy Pictures Private Limited, for using visuals from his production film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in the documentary.
