Days after Tamil star Vijay made a fiery speech during an event in Chennai and quoted a dialogue from actor Dhanush’s movie Asuran (2019), which highlighted the importance of education, the film’s director Vetrimaaran said that he and Vijay have been discussing doing a movie together and exuded confidence that it will happen soon.

Speaking to the media in Chennai on Monday, during an event organised to distribute health insurance cards to the members of the Tamil Nadu Movie Journalists Association, the National Award-winning filmmaker said, “We have been discussing doing a film together for a long time. Vijay sir is ready. Once I finish the commitments I have in hand, I will definitely go and narrate stories to him. At that time, if my stories work for him, we will definitely do a film.”

Furthermore, Vetrimaaran said that the long-anticipated sequel to Vada Chennai (2018) is currently in development and work on the film will be resumed once he is able to dedicate his full attention to it, after completing his current responsibilities.

Regarding casting Soori in Viduthalai Part 1, Vetrimaaran said, “At the time of Asuran itself, I had held talks with Soori and decided to cast him in the lead role in my next film. Though I tried to work on two scripts for this, neither of them turned out the way I wanted. Finally, Viduthalai happened.”

Upon release, Vetrimaaran’s Vidhuthalai Part 1 received good reviews. The Indian ExpressKirubhakar Purushothaman noted in his review that the film “is heart-wrenching and might be a hard watch if you prefer your safety zone.”

The director also mentioned that the work on Suriya-starrer Vaadivaasal will begin once Viduthalai Part 2 is over. “It’s pre-production is going on. Our team is working on the film’s animatronics in London.”
