With a film on India’s boxing champion and a dramatic comedy about a bride-to-be who goes on her honeymoon, despite her wedding being called off, we have a film on grandmothers, starring none other than Rekha! Having scored the music for Murder 2, let’s see what Harshit Saxena, music director of Super Nani has in store for us.
Sonu Nigam gives us the heart-rending track Nani ma which essentially centers around a grandson pacifying his distressed grandmother. The song is sentimental enough without being too dramatic, thanks to Sonu Nigam whose voice resonates with Sharman Joshi, making the song even more believable and evocative.
Shreya Ghoshal on the other hand doesn’t seem to be the right person to sing Prabhu mere ghar ko, merely because the song essays Rekha who essays the role of a grandmother in this family drama. While Shreya does a good job, her voice simply doesn’t click and feels odd. Ideally, an older female playback singer should have sung for Rekha. Dhaani chunariya, also sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Harshit Saxen, transports you to the era of music directors like Raamlaxman who is known for the music he composed for movies under the Rajshri Films banner. The song has an old-world charm and reminds you of Bollywood music from the nineties.
Maheroo maheroo also by Shreya Ghosal and Darshan Rathod is a soothing romantic number. Maheroo de sukoon. Kar meri chahath qubul. Kar qubul, de sukoon—Dreamy lyrics for this upbeat romantic number like these have been penned by Sanjay Chaturvedi. Both Rathod and Ghoshal are perfectly in sync with each other and wow you with their talent in this duet. The song is clearly the winner in an album that’s peppered with songs that are a little too high on the emotional quotient.
While the music of Super Nani is in sync with the film’s theme, it will strike a chord with the elderly and those who loved the music of films produced under the Rajshri Films banner.
