Reports about defence personnel feeling miffed at Yash Raj Films for not providing the prints of Dhoom 3 for viewing have been doing the rounds for quite some time. Plans were afoot to screen the film for the army at theatres owned by them in 150 locations across the country, in remote areas inaccessible to civilians. However, it was alleged that the banner had asked eight to ten times the money charged by films like Krrish and Chennai Express. As a result of which the defence personnel could not watch the movie on New Year’s day as planned. They also felt betrayed, since the armed forces had cooperated with YRF when Yash Chopra had shot his film, Jab Tak Hai Jaan at the border.
However, Sahdev Ghei, VP – Distribution refutes these rumours, stating, “Over the years, YRF has always stood by its support to legitimate requests from defence personnel for issuing permissions to play our films and will continue to do so. However, in many instances, we have felt that there may have been some inaccuracies in the data and business dealings of some people involved and we wanted to enquire into these loopholes, before giving the prints. In fact, in some instances, Dhoom 3 was screened during the first week itself at most centers when we had officially provided the prints from the second week, after verifying the authenticity of the request. However, we deeply regret any unintentional misunderstanding caused because of this.”
