At the music launch of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures’ Mary Kom, a biopic on the life of world renowned boxer Mary Kom, it was revealed that the film may be given a tax free status. Priyanka Chopra, who plays the reel life character of the boxer, said, “Mary Kom is a woman who stood up alone in a male-dominated field and fought for her rights and what she believed in. Her story is an inspiration for every young person out there.” Hence, she felt, it would be apt to get the film a tax free certificate.
“The Censor process is going on and hopefully if things works out, we will soon share the news,” said Ajit Andhare, COO Viacom 18 Motion Pictures at the event.
Meanwhile the five-time World Champion who was also present at the event revealed that she could not believe her ears when director Omung Kumar came to meet her at her home town Manipur to seek her permission to make a film on her eventful life.
“I couldn’t believe that he wanted to make a film on my life. I asked him if he was pagal. I hadn’t even won the Olympics as yet and am not that well-known, but I was happy that he wanted to tell my story to the world,” said the boxer, who was thrilled that a superstar like Chopra was playing her on screen despite it being such a tough character to portray.
