Vaani Kapoor steps into Anushka Sharma’s shoes in the Tamil version of Band Baaja Baarat, her second YRF film
Vaani Kapoor started her acting career with Yash Raj Film’s Shuddh Desi Romance. And now in her first regional film Aaha Kalyanam, she will be reprising the role played by Anushka Sharma in Band Baaja Baarat. “Mine and Anushka’s energy levels are very different. I have done this character within my energy level. And yes, it is definitely different from Tara, the character that I played in Shuddh Desi Romance. They are poles apart,” says the actress, who played a modern, independent girl of today in her debut film. She plays a Tamilian in Aaha Kalyanam. “From playing a modern girl to a typical South Indian girl is a complete contrast. However I was very comfortable with my South Indian get-up. In fact, I loved it. As a model, I have often worn sarees. Even as a kid, I’d wrap my mother’s dupattas around me like a saree. It is something all Indian girls love doing. Saree makes a woman look beautiful. I think it suits me. In the film too, I liked my South Indian sarees and gajras,” beams the actress.
For a Punjabi girl and that too, a newcomer, wasn’t it a challenge to do a Tamil film ? Vaani laughs, “Yes, it was but for a newcomer getting to play such a strong performance-oriented character, I could not say no to the offer. Also it was a Yash Raj film. However, it was Aditya Chopra’s call whether he wanted me in the film or not.”
One of the challenges that Vaani faced was in understanding the language of Tamil. The actress did not have an instructor or tutor on the set. It was director Gokul, who actually guided her through. “He took the pains to teach me the language, much before the shooting began. I give him sole credit for teaching me the language, which at times was very tough and frustrating for me,” she laughs.
While she is looking forward to the release of Aaha Kalyanam on February 21 in which she is paired opposite Nani, she is in talks for another YRF film. “My third with YRF. But I cannot comment about it right now,” she sums up.
Post Duniyadari, Sanjay Jadhav is back with Pyar Vali Love Story
From being a successful cinematographer, writer and director, Sanjay Jadhav took to production to fulfill an old dream of his. Result: Duniyadari was a huge success, breaking many box-office records where Marathi films are concerned.
Now he is back with another love story. Unlike Duniyadari which was based on a popular novel by the same name, this time the story, penned by Jadhav, is set in the ’90s. “I am actually petrified as this film is coming after the success of Duniyadari. Expectations are high from me, so I hope to do my best. I am attempting a love story again, but with a different flavour,” said Jadhav adding that the title Pyar Vali Love Story is taken from a song from Duniyadari.
To be produced by Rekha Jayant Joshi, Inder Raj Kapoor and Sanjay Jadhav under the banner Dreaming 24X7 and STV, the film was recently launched with a song recording.
To star Swapnil Joshi, Sai Tamhankar, Urmila Kantikar, Upendra Limaye and Sameer Dharmadhikari, the film is set to go on floors in Mumbai or Pune in March. Slated to release in August, it will have screenplay and dialogue by Arvind Jagtap.
YRF launches Bengali YouTube channel with Gunday
Yash Raj Films recently added one more channel to its vast YRF YouTube regional channels repertoire, YRF Bengali. The songs of YRF’s forthcoming film Gunday, both in Hindi and Bengali, can now be enjoyed on it along with the special Bangla version of the chart-topper Tune maari entriyaan sung by Bappi Lahiri.
Gunday is set during Bengal’s most turbulent times in 1970. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and produced by Aditya Chopra, it stars Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and Irrfan. The film will release simultaneously in Hindi and Bengali on February 14.
