When Prosenjit Chatterjee slapped Sharmila Tagore: ‘You slapped me because I slapped your dad’
Prosenjit Chatterjee recalls the time when in his childhood, he visited the sets of his father's film where he slapped Sharmila Tagore.

In a recent interview promoting his new film Ajogyo —his 50th with co-star Rituparna Sengupta — actor Prosenjit Chatterjee shared a delightful childhood memory involving the legendary actor Sharmila Tagore.
Recalling his early days as a child on set with his father Biswajeet Chatterjee, Prosenjit said, “I think I was around four or five. Watching a scene where Sharmila aunty had to slap my father as part of an emotional scene between the hero and heroine.”
He shared that during lunch break, the veteran actor picked him up in her lap. “She called and took me into her lap and I slapped her!” Prosenjit chuckled, adding “Even today, whenever I meet her, she reminds me of that incident! She says, ‘You slapped me because I slapped your dad!'”
For those unfamiliar, Sharmila Tagore and Biswajeet Chatterjee shared the screen in two films: Prabhater Rang and Yeh Raat Phir Na Aayegi.
Celebrated as the golden couple of their era, Prosenjit Chatterjee and Rituparna Sengupta have starred in an impressive 50 films together. Often compared to the legendary Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen, their latest collaboration, Ajogyo, marks yet another milestone in their illustrious partnership. Directed by Kaushik Ganguly, Ajogyo delves into the intricate dynamics of relationships, a theme that deeply resonates with both actors.
