Kantara 2 Box Office Collection Day 12: After commanding the top rank in the list of highest-grossing Indian movies of 2025 for eight months, it seems director Laxman Utekar’s Vicky Kaushal-starrer Chhaava might finally have to relinquish its spot to actor-director Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1. Although the Kannada film’s daily earnings have fallen short of Chhaava’s, it’s performing well outside India and has already earned more overseas than the Vicky Kaushal-starrer did over its entire run.
On its second Monday in theatres, Kantara 2 recorded an India nett collection of Rs 13.5 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk, taking its total domestic earnings to Rs 451.90 crore. This, however, marked a 66.04 per cent dip compared to the movie’s Sunday collection of Rs 39.75 crore. While the original Kannada and the Hindi versions of the film earned Rs 4.75 crore each, the Tamil edition contributed Rs 1.5 crore, Telugu Rs 1.35 crore, and Malayalam Rs 1.15 crore. The movie’s worldwide gross now stands at Rs 635.5 crore and is poised to surpass the Rs 700 crore mark soon.
Remarkably, the film’s Hindi version alone has earned Rs 150.67 crore. Despite a 37.32 per cent drop from its second Friday collections, the version has managed to sustain strong momentum. According to the film’s makers, the Hindi edition earned Rs 7.10 crore on Friday, followed by Rs 14.37 crore on Saturday and Rs 14.65 crore on Sunday. In a bid to boost business, the team behind Kantara 2 has also announced a discount on ticket prices, which came into effect on Tuesday.
During the day, Kantara 2 registered an overall occupancy of 34.86 per cent in the Kannada market. While the morning shows commenced with a 15.91 per cent occupancy rate, the figure witnessed a massive jump in the afternoon, reaching 30.82 per cent. It only improved as the day unfolded, touching 43.11 per cent during the evening screenings and peaking at 49.59 per cent at night.
Although Kantara 2 has been holding strong at the box office and has already emerged as the second-highest-grossing Indian movie of 2025, surpassing Mohit Suri’s Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda-starrer Saiyaara, its daily earnings have been lower than Chhaava’s, casting doubt on its prospects of surpassing the Vicky Kaushal-starrer’s overall domestic haul (Rs 601.54 crore). On its second Monday in theatres, Chhaava had earned Rs 18 crore after registering a second Sunday collection of Rs 40 crore.
Nonetheless, the Rishab Shetty film has been faring well overseas, and has already grossed Rs 95.2 crore from the international market in 12 days, significantly more than what Chhaava (Rs 91 crore) did during its lifetime. If the movie maintains the same momentum in the overseas market, it can emerge as the top-grosser of the year in no time.
A prequel to Rishab Shetty’s 2022 pan-India sensation, Kantara: Chapter 1 also stars Jayaram, Rukmini Vasanth, and Gulshan Devaiah in key roles. Bankrolled by Vijay Kiragandur and Chaluve Gowda under the banner of Hombale Films, the action drama features cinematography by Arvind S Kashyap, editing by Suresh Mallaiah, and music by B Ajaneesh Loknath. Kantara 2 also ranks as the second-highest-grossing Kannada film of all time, behind KGF: Chapter 2.
